This file contains information on :
• Changing the colours used in Word Hound windows
• Word Hound's system variables
• Template files
Word Hound's Window Colours
---------------------------
Word Hound allows you to change the colours used in three of it's windows
(the 'Selection', 'Display' and 'Quick Definition' windows). Each of these
windows use five main colours :
Name Used for Default
---- -------- -------
1) Background - Window Background Colour Dark Grey (5)
2) Foreground - Main text in Display and White (0)
Quick Definition windows
3) Dictionary - Name of data file entry Cyan (f)
is located within
4) Word - Highlighting the word used Yellow (9)
in search
5) Select - Highlighting selected word Green (a)
in Display or Quick Defn.
There are two ways you can change the colours used in the windows.
1) When Word Hound is running you can change any of the above colours using
the menu. Simply call up the main menu and then located the 'Colours'
sub-menu. This menu then has five sub-menus (one for each of the above)
which contain the usual colour selection menus.
When you change a colour by this method, the effect of that change is
not immediate. The colour change will occur when you next bring up one
of the windows.
2) Before you run Word Hound you can set up the WordHound$Options variable
to hold the colours you want for the windows. This variable must contain
(just) five single hex digits, one for each of the five listed (above)
colour types.
So to set this variable with the default settings, you would type :
*Set WordHound$Options 50f9a
In fact every time you change the colours using method (1) this variable
will automatically be created for you. Thus the easiest way to get the
colours how you like them is to use method (1) until you get the colours
you like, then simply copy the setting for the variable into either your
main !Boot file, or Word Hound's !Run file.
Word Hound only reads the WordHound$Options variable when it starts up, and if
it does not contain 5 (and only 5) single hex digits it will ignore the
variable and set the default colours.
Word Hound's System Variables
-----------------------------
Word Hound used 3 system variables :
WordHound$Dir - Points to the application directory, tells Word Hound
where to find it's sprites files, templates, etc.
WordHound$Path - Points to the directory (directories) which contain
index and data files. By default this is the same as
WordHound$Dir.
WordHound$Options - See (above) section on Window Colours.
Word Hound's Template Files
---------------------------
Word Hound comes with two sets of template files, standard and 3D (named
'Templates' and 'Templates3' respectively). Word Hound will use which ever of
these is called 'Templates' (by default the standard 2D templates).
The 3D templates are RiscOS 3.00 templates and may not work fully with the
Interface Module (not supplied with this package). There is no guarantee
that they will work with RiscOS 3.10.
